CD Over the Sky to See

Amy Geddes and Sandy Wright are two of the stalwarts of the Scottish music scene. Both are not only fine musicians but also great tune writers. On this their first album together produced by Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop there are some very good examples of these talents.

Raised in Galloway, Amy Geddes is now at the forefront of contemporary Scottish fiddle playing as a performer, teacher and composer. She has performed in Scotland and Europe with various artists including Tannas, the Scottish Step Dance Company and Savourna Stevenson and all female group Maysha. Her fiddle style has developed over the years through playing with a numerous musicians in an eclectic variety of musical styles including, for example, a performance on a tribute album to Brian Wilson and with a new piece of music for the Edinburgh Mela, working with Chinese and Pakistani musicians. Amy has an assured and unique fiddle style firmly rooted in Scotland yet enhanced by an increasingly broad wealth of musical experience. Amy is now based in Edinburgh and is a full time musician, performer and teacher. Amy can also be heard on the compilation album Heat The Hoose
Edinburgh born Sandy Wright [guitar] has played various genres of music all over the planet. Also known for his singing and song-writing, he has released an album with the band 'Russell's House.' Sandy also plays with 'Steppin' Stanes' and his lyrical playing can also be heard on Simon Thoumire's 'CD's 'Waltzes for Playboys'. His elegant and inventive guitar work also featured on the acclaimed CD Birlin Fiddles.

…Amy Geddes and Sandy Wright are two of the stalwarts of the Scottish music scene. Both are not only fine musicians but also great tune writers. On this their first album together produced by Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop there are some very good examples of these talents. "Bendy" is a lilting tune written by Amy for her friend and fellow fiddler Anna Wendy Stevenson and the gorgeous Anne's Song (track 6) is dedicated to Amy's mother. Sandy Wright wrote the title track Over the Sky to See and it's a grand tune. Amy and Sandy include 3 tracks written in the last century by Henry Maughan and known as the Loch Goil Collection. They wanted future fiddlers and the folk of Loch Goil to enjoy them in years to come. I am just glad I can enjoy them now on this CD. Lovely stuff. If you are wondering who did the gorgeous painting on the CD cover, it was Don McNeil who donated it to the Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop to help them raise some money. The painting is called "The Music of the Tide". Check out the Fyne Studios and Gallery at http://www.fyne-studios.com/
