Hands up for Trad Awards

VOTE NOW
AT Voting closes 23rd November

Success of our old friends!
Many musicians who have helped us and performed for LFW and local communities are in the finals of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2008
James Ross, who toured many of our local school with Anna-Wendy Stevenson, and played in the Drim with Sarah Jane Fifield; and Sandy Wright who has perfomed for us a number of times with Amy Geddes are both up for Composer of the Year.

Anna Massie who brought her band to Lochgoilhead is up against Kris Drever, who played here with Fine Friday, in the Instrumentalist of the Year category.

There are other LFW visitors in other categories: Emily Smith is a finalist as the Scots Singer of the Year; Malinky as the Folk Band of the Year; and Catriona Watt (Up and Coming Artist). Catriona visited us with the other finalists of the BBC Radio Scotland Finalists in 2007.

The album of the year finalists may give us an even more difficult choice: Duncan Chisholm and Catriona McKay are both finalists.

Fiona Dalgetty, our old tutor, (only in the sense of our last tutor) now helps run the Edinburgh Youth Gaithering who are up for the Community Project of the Year Award the one we won in 2005.

NOT that we are telling you how to vote!! but do vote for someone. All interest in these awards help raise the profile of the music we love so much!

It may be presumptuous to think that Hands Up for Trad checked out Loch Goil visiting musicians, but at least it reaffirms that our part of Argyll has benefited from visits from many of the top names on the circuit thanks to the efforts of the Workshop!
