DONALD BLACK at COWAL GATHERING
There are plenty of reasons for members, locals and visitors to visit this year’s games (23rd to 25th Aug), but if an extra incentive is needed here is one. Donald Black played at one of the Workshop’s most enthusiastically received concerts with Malcolm Jones, Jamie Laval and Hans York, as well as running a harmonica workshop for us. He will have a stand at the games proting a new instrument – DO VISIT HIM AS PART OF YOUR VISIT TO THE GAMES.
Earlier this year, Scottish Celtic Harmonica player, Donald Black, in collaboration with world-famous musical instrument manufacturer Hohner, brought to the market a mouthorgan(a modification and re-branding of a hundred year old existing product)which facilitates the playing of many, many Scottish pipe tunes hitherto not at all possible to play on this instrument. It has been aptly named the Hohner "Highlander" and is a double-sided tremolo product in the keys of A and D.
The flattening 2 G sharp notes to G on the A side provides the "flattened seventh" notes required for this.
There is also a special feature on Donald and his Highlander by Mike Paterson in the next edition of "Piping Today".
Donald will be in attendance where he will have a trade stand promoting/selling the Highlander at:-
Piping Live Festival,National Piping College,McPhater St.,Glasgow -- Monday 6th to Sunday 12th August
World Pipe Band Championships,Glasgow,Sat 11th August
Cowal Highland Gathering, Thurs 23rd to Sat 25th August
