Ceilidh Trail Concerts -Ireland and Scotland

After going to Ireland the musicians will perform :

3rd Aug 20.00 KILMARTIN- LIVING STONES CENTRE

5th Aug 14.30 IONA ABBEY

The eight young players combine Scottish and Irish music, song and dance, and perform on a wide range of instruments including flute, guitar, pipes, clarsach, keyboards, accordion and fiddle. They are joined by established poets and storytellers Gearadin Bhreathuach and John MacFarlane.

Ceilidh trails are well established in Nova Scotia and in the Scottish Highland heartlands, but as far as Fèis Cheann Loch Goibhle knows, this is the first of this type of event to be put on in Argyll, and the first to combine young 18-20 year olds from Scotland and Ireland. A grant from Argyll and Bute Council under the banner of Homecoming 2009, together with financial and staffing support from Fèisean nan Gàidheal, enabled this innovative series of concerts to be put together. After Lochgoilhead the musicians will be off to Ireland to play at Ardcarn, Rossgyll, Glencolumbkille. They then return to perform in Islay, Gigha, Cambletown, Kilmartin, Tobermory, finishing appropriately, given the St Columba connection, in Iona. Going to, in the main, small community venues the ‘In the Footstep’s of St. Columba’ Ceilidh Trail gives a rare opportunity for many communities to hear music from around the Gaelic and Celtic world, and gives some young musicians an experience of playing and touring together.
Added to this you will see some beautiful photographic images from St Columba's route being displayed as a photographic backdrop- by Cowal photographer Derek Prescott.
There will be group and solo performances with good craic in an informal setting Cultural and entertaining, this is a fantastic showcase of some of Scotland and Ireland's best young talent and music.
